Our Heritage

Redpath was founded in Montreal in 1854 by John Redpath as the Canada Sugar Refining Company. The original refinery, built along the Lachine Canal, was part of Canada’s early industrial growth.

In the 1950s, Redpath opened its Toronto waterfront refinery, taking advantage of the St. Lawrence Seaway. This facility supplies approximately 40 percent of Canada’s sugar demand and continues to serve as the backbone of Redpath’s national operations.

To support new needs in the food and beverage industry, the Belleville, Ontario, facility was added, providing blending, co-manufacturing, and packaging capabilities for business customers. Together, the Toronto and Belleville operations reflect Redpath’s commitment to scale, stability, and innovation, trusted across generations by both consumers and professionals.

Through Redpath Professional, we support manufacturers, bakeries, beverage producers, distributors, and foodservice operators. Our facilities are certified to GFSI and HACCP standards. The Toronto refinery provides stability of supply, while the Belleville facility offers blending, co-manufacturing, and packaging options.
